Lana Scholtz

Painter.

“My paintings explore abstraction as a site where the body can be reimagined through biomorphic symmetry and architectural forms. Iʼm drawn to psychologically nuanced states—places of introspection where clarity and ambiguity coexist, and where many truths can hold at once. Through layered color, optical effects, and recursive structures, I create spaces that oscillate between expansiveness and hyperfocus, fragility and permanence, the earthly and the alien. These works move between the intimate and the infinite, opening portals for speculation and shifting perception.”

Lana Scholtz plays with perception in her vivid abstract paintings. Painting variably with gouache and oils on intimate and expansive scales, she illustrates exuberance through layers of high chroma color. Lanaʼs practice is informed by speculations of novel optical experiences, an absurd sense of humor and a general, overwhelming sense of wonder and awe. Structured and immersive, her compositions translate sensory experiences into dimensional and patterned fields. Lana lives and works in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
