“It felt more alive, more like life”

“This is one of my favorite paintings in this wood panel series. I love just staring at it, the various glyphs and quips can be mesmerizing. There’s still something new for me to find every time I’m standing in front of it. It’s like looking at a stream of subconsciousness, floating through intention and instinct.
This was my second attempt at painting a moment of loss and grief—initially meant to be a dedication to my late godfather. The first attempt was a bit more one sided, it did a great job of capturing that sorrow and loneliness I felt. However, this second version has some more randomly placed meaninglessness, a loose playfulness, and a touch of joy. It felt more alive, more like life. “
