Jes Márquez grew up in New Mexico. She was homeschooled/unschooled and enjoys talking about learning without a curriculum. Interestingly, it led her to the unique and often informal education that is boot making. Jes loves dogs. Shout out to the cattle dogs! She is currently restoring an old adobe house with her husband in Northern New Mexico. This is far less glamorous than it sounds, similar to the arduous process of building custom cowboy boots. Jes is passionate about preserving the knowledge and skillset that is making handmade cowboy boots while delivering a pair that has never been seen before.
Jes’ boots have been on stage at the LA Forum, displayed at the New Mexico Museum of Fine Arts and are in a number of private collections. She was a recipient of the New Mexico Arts Folk Art Master and Apprentice Program Grant 2024. She is also the author of a humorous book, Utilities Nearby: Musings on the Off Grid Real Estate Scene of Santa Fe, Taos & Northern New Mexico.
