Coiled Snake + Quail Rings:
I had all of these cut outs left from my Madera earrings and it felt like a shame to melt down the intricate saw work I had already done and thought about how I could use them for a new design. For these rings, I wanted the shape of the traditional New Mexican retablos to wrap around your finger. In the center is a spirit animal, in this case the Coiled Snake or the Quail. The Coiled Snake is a nod to the spiral sundial petroglyph at Fajada Butte/Gap in Chaco Canyon. The Quail, a symbol of family, is found all over my backyard. Like Georgia O’Keeffe, I love looking for symbols and relics of beauty in my closest surroundings.
