"Working primarily in ceramics, I draw inspiration from the organic shapes and details that often go unnoticed in everyday life. I enjoy observing the unique characteristics of plants, animals, and natural forms and reinterpreting them through both functional and sculptural work. By incorporating these elements into my pieces, I hope to encourage a sense of connection, appreciation, and curiosity for the natural world, especially for the elements in nature that may not be seen as beautiful to most but are so important to our ecosystem. Like wasps, bats, and things that may appear “scary.” But when we learn more about them, we learn that they are all part of a much larger picture and hold beauty in a different sense. "

My name is Jessica Archibeque and I am a native New Mexican ceramic artist whose work is inspired by a deep curiosity for the natural world. I am inspired and fascinated by the forms, textures, colors, and patterns found in the natural world. Through my work, I explore ways of translating these observations into clay, creating pieces that celebrate the beauty and cultural importance. I also work to understand the materials I use through the choice of clays, glaze ingredients, and what those ingredients represent as a whole. I take into consideration the choice of clay just as much as the imagery and form.
