'Self Faith'
Rebecca Elise Cook
enamel, steel, acrylic, collage + vintage silver tray

“Last fall, I began drafting magic sigils. My process involves abstracting a word or phrase through drawing it over and over, and powering it up using intention. In this way, these paintings act like minor spells. I approached this series by foraging within myself for qualities I wanted to enhance; self-faith,
doubt antidote, verisimilitude, and courage generator.
I found a series of vintage silver trays, and carefully fitted tinted acrylic to each one. I drafted the sigils using collage and enamel on both sides of the transparent surface, letting the mirror of the silver come through. The result is like a magic mirror, in which the viewer sees themselves reflected as well as
the powered-up magic sigil. I want these paintings to create a chance for reflection, boost courage, and drive out fear."
